Gosh suddenly I feel like I am being quite productive, or at least more so than in the past!  I have just completed two additional oils both on linen panels.

The first is a commission for a distant family members residing in South Carolina. It was based on a photograph they supplied to me of a favorite vacation. The challenge was not only the child’s pose but also the shadows. She was wearing beach shoes in the photograph and I was asked to paint her in bare feet. Additional photographs were supplied to me for that reference. All in all I am happy with the way it turned out. The completed size is 24″ wide by 18″ high.

The second painting is titled The Conductor and is a portrait partially done from life and partially from photographs I took during our model sessions. Our model who is the conductor for the Rochester Chamber Orchestra had never modeled before and he was fantastic! He has fair skin (of Norwegian descent) so we lit him from one side with a red colored bulb. It made for an interesting addition to his fair skin tones.
This painting will be part of the 2013 New York Figure Study Guild’s Annual Exhibition at the Steve Carpenter Studio and Gallery, 176 Anderson Ave, Rochester NY 14607. The show will run from Friday, September 6th to Saturday, September 14th. The completed size is 9″ wide by 12′ high.
